History

The Golf Course was originally opened in 1895 under the name of the Bedfordshire Golf Club. Formally being a flat sheep field with no trees or obstructions. Over the years the course has developed into a challenging test of golf for both amateur and professional golfers alike.

Well known for its undulating, tree-lined fairways and maturity, the Golf course was once the home of Henry Longhurst, known as “the voice of golf”. He learned to play the game of Golf and soon becoming the Captain of Cambridge University and winning the County Championship.

Other famous names include Henry Cotton, Bob Charles, Neil Coles, Max Faulkner (open Champion 1951), Henry Weetman and Dai Rees.

However in 1996 came the plans to close the course for good, due to the announcement that it would be sold and the land used to build houses and a new road. Plans then changed once again and a new lease was signed and the course was renamed Ouse Valley Golf Course.

Unfortunately the Courses reputation and condition worsened, over a period of 8 years until once again the course was closed in late 2008. However this was not the end of the story. In 2009 came more surprise news and a new lease was signed by David Heads of Stoneheads Associates Ltd for 10 years minimum.

Since then we have been striving to claim back the rightful reputation as being one of the finest Golf Courses in the area. Condition of the course is improving day by day and being here now over a year we are confident that we can restore the course to its former glory.

It is now in excellent condition and the improvements on the course and clubhouse are immense.
